My Melody - A Gift From Mom

As I briefly mentioned before in another blog post, some of the Barbie Dolls lost were from my mother, who has since gone to heaven. One of the greatest gifts I ever received was a My Melody doll from her. This was because it was one I had always wanted, and the way my mom gave it to me warmed my heart to its core.

She had a new job as a paralegal, it was a great job and an upgrade from her previous job as an eBay seller. One day I popped my head into her office and she asked me, "what Barbie have you always wanted?"

I thought for a moment, that's a huge question for a collector, and I had lots of Barbies back then. "I think it's called My Melody" I responded.

"Oh okay" she's up to something.

Months passed and my birthday came, I unwrapped a My Melody Barbie Doll from my mom. She was the most adorable Barbie Doll I ever saw, and I absolutely cherished her and sat her on the highest shelf I had.

Years passed by and I no longer have that specific exact Doll from my mom. However thanks to the powers of the internet, I found one on ebay with a squished box for a price I could afford. I placed a bid, and I won. About a week passed and I checked the mail, I have this cute doll again in my possession! I unboxed her with delight.

I didn't used to unbox Barbie Dolls, I kept them in their boxes because I didn't want to devalue them. Now that I'm older I figure they are mine, plus I've learned a lot of them don't lose as much value as I thought from being deboxed. They just need to be kept in good condition.

Anyway, again Barbie brought up a sweet memory from my past, which I'm grateful for. I'm also glad that I have this blog so that I can remember.

I wanted to also add, the details that are in Barbie Dolls released around the time My Melody Barbie was are SO detailed. I'm going to include some pictures because the miniature shoes and purse are so adorable.
